DPP launches 'mobile standing committee' in Taichung for elections

Taiwan's ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is launching its first "mobile standing committee" meeting in Taichung, signaling a strategic push ahead of the year-end local elections. President and DPP Chairman Lai Ching-te is set to lead the event, aiming to galvanize support and unify the party's campaign efforts.

The centerpiece of the meeting will be a "governance vision" report presented by Taichung mayoral candidate Hsin-chun Ho. This presentation is part of the DPP's new initiative to have local candidates outline their policy blueprints and demonstrate their capacity to address public needs. Following Ho's report, Lai Ching-te will rally Hsin-chun Ho and other DPP city council candidates, a move designed to boost morale and foster a collective drive for victory.

The "mobile standing committee" format is intended to facilitate direct interaction between central party leadership and local candidates. The DPP hopes this approach will help integrate local demands, build policy consensus, and establish stronger collaborative mechanisms. This initiative comes as the DPP has already nominated 19 county and city mayoral candidates for the upcoming elections.

Legislative caucus whip Tsai Chi-chang is also scheduled to deliver remarks. The event will conclude with Lai Ching-te leading the candidates in a pledge ceremony, underscoring the party's commitment to winning back Taichung. A closed-door meeting of the standing committee will follow.
