Tsipras's new party can challenge New Democracy, says Achtsioglou

Efi Achtsioglou, a former minister, anticipates that Alexis Tsipras's new political party will emerge as a significant force capable of challenging New Democracy. She believes the initiative has the potential to reshape the political landscape, regardless of individual opinions on Tsipras himself.

Achtsioglou highlighted that the new party possesses "majority characteristics" and "governmental capability." She described it as the "left's perspective" on crucial matters such as the economy, the social state, and the rule of law. She suggested that the party's programmatic goals align with governing ambitions.

The party of Alexis Tsipras appears to have similar aspirations. What does the governing left say, thus setting a governmental perspective on programmatic issues is in this direction.

Despite her political proximity to Tsipras, Achtsioglou revealed a lack of recent communication, stating they haven't spoken in a long time. She stressed that their past collaboration fosters personal respect, but emphasized that politics is about objectives, aspirations, social mobilization, and actions, not hidden communications or animosities.

Comparing past governance periods, Achtsioglou asserted that poverty decreased during Tsipras's premiership, while it has risen under New Democracy. She contrasted the two eras, noting the presence of "memorandum fiscal constraints" during Tsipras's term and an "influx of money from the Recovery Fund" under the current government.
