Tuchel Replaces Injured Livramento With Chalobah in England's World Cup Squad

England's World Cup preparations have been disrupted by an injury to right-back Tino Livramento, forcing coach Thomas Tuchel to make a squad change. Livramento sustained an injury during a training session in Kansas, United States, on Sunday, June 14, ruling him out of the tournament's opening match against Croatia on June 18.

Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah has been called up to replace the injured Newcastle United player. The Football Association (FA) announced Chalobah's inclusion on Monday, June 15, confirming he would join the squad in Kansas before their departure for the match. FIFA regulations permit squad changes up to 24 hours before a team's first match, a window the FA utilized.

Livramento, who had appeared as a substitute in England's previous friendly win against New Zealand, is expected to be sidelined for approximately six weeks. This setback leaves Tuchel needing to secure a replacement at right-back for the crucial opening fixture against Croatia.

Chalobah's selection is noteworthy as Tuchel opted for him over several more experienced defenders, including Fikayo Tomori, Harry Maguire, Lewis Hall, and Trent Alexander-Arnold. The 26-year-old Chalobah had a consistent season with Chelsea in 2025-26, making 34 Premier League appearances. His inclusion offers Tuchel an additional defensive option, potentially serving as backup to John Stones and Marc Guehi in England's backline during the tournament.
