Tunghai University Political Science Department Condemns Discriminatory Remarks

Tunghai University's Political Science Department has issued a statement strongly opposing discriminatory remarks, specifically addressing comments made by a Ukrainian national identified as K. The department clarified that K., who graduated in July and has since left Taiwan, does not represent their institutional position. His personal statements on social media, particularly those targeting a Taipei city councilor and touching upon issues of gender and sexual orientation, are considered individual actions and do not reflect the department's values.

The department unequivocally stated its opposition to all forms of discriminatory speech and hateful viewpoints. It affirmed its core values of equality, respect, and inclusivity. The statement also referenced past allegations against K. during his time as a student, including accusations of secretly filming women and sexual harassment. The university's gender equity committee reportedly intervened, providing gender equality education and counseling.

Tunghai University's Political Science Department reiterated that political science fundamentally explores democracy, human rights, justice, and the coexistence of diverse societies. Any behavior that denies an individual's basic human rights is seen as a violation of the department's educational philosophy.
