Tunis southern entrance to face 45 days of traffic changes for bridge construction

Drivers heading south into Tunis should prepare for significant traffic disruptions as the Ministry of Equipment and Housing announced major changes to the southern entrance. Starting Friday, July 24, 2026, at 5:00 PM, the number of lanes available under the Saint Gobain bridge at Djebel Jelloud will be reduced to a single lane for vehicles traveling on National Road No. 1 from the city center towards Ben Arous.

In contrast, two lanes will remain open for traffic flowing from Ben Arous into the capital. The ministry stated that these modifications are necessary to facilitate the ongoing construction of foundations for two new bridges, a key part of the project to extend the southern entrance of the capital (Lot No. 1).

These traffic changes are expected to last for 45 days. The ministry urged road users to exercise caution, reduce their speed, and adhere to the temporary signage and road arrangements put in place to ensure the safety of workers and the smooth progress of the construction.
