Tunisia: 449 Informal Market Stalls Dismantled in 24-Hour Operation

Tunisian municipal police have conducted a large-scale campaign across the country, dismantling 449 informal market stalls and addressing public health concerns within a 24-hour period.

The targeted interventions, aimed at combating the informal trade sector, resulted in the immediate elimination of numerous unauthorized points of sale. In addition to clearing the stalls, authorities identified and documented 227 sanitary violations, indicating issues with hygiene standards in these informal markets.

The operation also had a significant impact on public security. According to a statement released by the Ministry of the Interior, 73 seizure operations were carried out. Furthermore, 47 judicial reports were filed, and 11 individuals sought by various security and judicial authorities were apprehended during the crackdown.

On the ground, law enforcement officers directly removed 449 anarchic installations. During these actions, officers confiscated 39 scales, 25 motorcycles, and 2 vehicles found to be in violation of traffic regulations. The economic and sanitary aspects of the campaign led to the issuance of 152 reports for economic infractions and 227 reports for non-compliance with hygiene standards.
