Tunisia Accelerates Key Energy, Health, and Digital Projects

Tunisia's Commission on Major Projects has committed to accelerating the completion of three key initiatives: the expansion of the Borj El Amri power plant, the finishing of the Thala regional hospital, and the finalization of the Ennahli Digital City. The decision, made during the commission's twelfth periodic meeting chaired by Head of Government Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri, prioritizes projects in energy, health, and digital transformation. "The acceleration of public projects constitutes an absolute priority to stimulate economic growth, develop infrastructure, create wealth and jobs, reduce regional disparities, improve citizens' quality of life, and consolidate social justice," Zaafrani Zenzri stated. She urged all public bodies involved to redouble their efforts, proactively resolve difficulties, and intensify on-site monitoring to ensure timely and quality completion, meeting citizens' expectations nationwide. The Borj El Amri power plant expansion aims to bolster energy security and the national electricity system's capacity. Minister of Equipment and Housing, Slah Zouari, presented the project, highlighting its role in balancing production and demand, ensuring continuous supply, and reducing the risk of rolling blackouts, particularly during peak periods. This expansion will add a third gas turbine, estimated to generate between 250 to 400 MW, and will be designated a strategic major project. The other two projects include the completion of a Category 'B' regional hospital in Thala, Kasserine Governorate, and the finalization of the Digital City in Ennahli, Ariana Governorate. These initiatives are expected to contribute significantly to regional development and the country's overall progress.
