Tunisian Trade Office Needs Radical Overhaul of Storage and Distribution Systems

Tunisia's Minister of Commerce and Export Development, Samir Abid, has called for a fundamental transformation of the operational methods within the storage and distribution centers of the Tunisian Trade Office (OCT).

The current phase requires a radical change in the way storage and distribution centers operate within the Tunisian Trade Office and a qualitative leap in adopted work methods and market indicator analysis mechanisms.

During a meeting, Abid stressed that the current phase necessitates a radical change in how these centers function. He urged a significant leap forward in work methodologies and the analytical mechanisms used for market indicators. The minister stated that the role of storage and distribution centers should evolve beyond traditional tasks to become active proponents of modernizing the distribution system and strengthening the management of essential product stocks, thereby boosting intervention efficiency.

Abid highlighted the OCT's crucial social function in implementing state policy and safeguarding citizens' purchasing power. He reminded attendees that the office remains a primary structure for securing supply chains. The minister recalled the office's past significance, both financially and commercially, and underscored the imperative to restore its former influence and solidify its status as a public enterprise.

The role of storage and distribution centers should no longer be limited to traditional tasks, but rather become an active force for proposing modernization of the distribution system and strengthening the management of basic product stocks, thereby optimizing the effectiveness of interventions.

Despite recent challenges, Abid acknowledged the office's success in overcoming difficulties while maintaining a stable supply of essential goods without notable shortages. He urged center managers to be attentive to the OCT's clients and to focus on improving service quality. The meeting also included presentations on the centers' activities, future investment projects, IT applications, digitalization initiatives, and the office's strategic plan for 2026-2030.
