Turkey and Egypt Urge Implementation of Trump's Gaza Peace Plan After Israeli Rejection

Turkey and Egypt, key mediators in the Gaza conflict, have jointly called for the implementation of U.S. President Donald Trump's peace plan for the Palestinian enclave. This appeal comes after Israel announced its rejection of the new proposal, intensifying diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation.

The call was made during a phone conversation between Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelaty and his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan. They emphasized the "necessity of implementing Trump's peace plan" through its first two phases, which crucially include an "Israeli withdrawal from Gaza." Tel Aviv, however, has expressed strong opposition to this withdrawal.

Furthermore, both nations demanded an "immediate cessation of hostilities" in Gaza. A statement from Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs also conveyed condemnation of "repeated Israeli violations" in both the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. Abdelaty had previously spoken with UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Nikolai Mladenov, urging all parties to adhere to their commitments and avoid actions that could derail the implementation process.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected the 15-point plan, which aims to advance a ceasefire, stating that the Israeli military would not withdraw from Gaza until Hamas disarms. The White House had previously warned Trump would be "very, very disappointed" if Israel did not comply with its part of the agreement. Hamas officially accepted the 15-point plan but conditioned its disarmament on a complete Israeli withdrawal from the Strip.
