Turkey arrests five suspects in 2015 attack on Fenerbahçe team bus

Turkish Justice Minister Akın Gürlek announced a new phase in the investigation into the 2015 armed attack on the Fenerbahçe football team bus. The case, which occurred in Trabzon on April 4, 2015, is being re-examined by the newly established Department for the Investigation of Unsolved Crimes within the Directorate General of Criminal Affairs.

Utilizing new technological tools and updated examination methods, all evidence has been re-evaluated. Based on new HTS (mobile phone location data) and base station analyses, Trabzon's Chief Public Prosecutor's Office led an operation targeting five suspects. Searches and seizures were conducted at their residences, and legal proceedings have commenced.

The goal is to reveal the individuals behind the attack with concrete evidence.

Minister Gürlek emphasized that the investigation aims to identify the perpetrators of the 11-year-old attack with concrete evidence. He stressed a firm stance against violence in sports, stating the investigation will be pursued regardless of the target. "We will not allow any person or group to be unjustly accused, nor any attack to remain unsolved," Gürlek declared, vowing to shed light on questions that have long awaited answers from the Turkish football community and the nation.

He also noted that efforts to uncover incidents that have deeply affected the nation's conscience are continuing with determination under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The attack in 2015 left the bus driver seriously injured and the players and club officials narrowly escaped harm.
