Turkey's DEM Party Backs New 'Framework Law,' Urges Swift Implementation for Peace

Turkey's parliament has approved a "Framework Law," officially known as the Law on Strengthening National Solidarity and Social Integration, a move met with cautious optimism by the pro-Kurdish DEM Party. The party, which voted in favor of the legislation, views it as a potential starting point for peace and democratization in the country.

DEM Party Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları expressed hope that the law would bring peace to Turkey. She acknowledged the significant debates surrounding the legislation and the concerns raised by various groups. However, she stressed that the law's true value lies in its concrete implementation, which requires the swift formation of a relevant council and the preparation of a report by the National Security Council (MGK). This report must then be published in the Official Gazette for the law to take effect.
