Turkey's Justice Minister Vows Tougher Stance on Drugs, Gangs, and Online Gambling

Turkey's Justice Minister Akın Gürlek has declared a new, intensified phase in the nation's battle against drug trafficking, online gambling, and street gangs. Speaking in Istanbul's Esenyurt district, Gürlek vowed that the state would take decisive action against all illegal structures aiming to make the area a hub for crime.

"Everyone from the drug peddler to the baron, from the hitman to the instigator, and those involved in individual and organized online gambling operations should know this: we are after you," Gürlek stated. He assured citizens that their actions would not go unpunished and that they would be held accountable under the law.

Gürlek stressed that justice means ensuring citizens feel safe on the streets, protecting young people from drug dealers, and preventing illicit earnings from infiltrating the legitimate economy. He specifically addressed street gangs, vowing to stop them from exploiting children and youth through extortion and threats against legitimate businesses.

He also mentioned the issuance of a circular regarding the fight against organized crime.

The minister's remarks were made during a visit to Esenyurt with the Interior Minister, where they inspected projects related to justice and security. Esenyurt has frequently been in the news for public order issues amid its rapid development.
