Turkey Weather Forecast: Widespread Showers and Thunderstorms Expected, Heavy Rain in Several Regions

Turkey's General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM) forecasts widespread cloudiness with scattered showers and thunderstorms across the nation on May 24, 2026. The precipitation is expected to be locally heavy in several regions. These include the eastern parts of Marmara, the inner Aegean areas, the interior of the western Mediterranean, and the northern and western sections of Central Anatolia.

Further areas anticipating strong rainfall are the western Black Sea region, excluding Sinop, the interior of central and eastern Black Sea, and eastern Anatolia, with the exception of Elazığ. Additionally, the provinces of Hatay, Osmaniye, Kayseri, and the vicinity of Balıkesir are also under watch for heavy downpours.

The forecast indicates a slight temperature drop of 2 to 4 degrees Celsius in the interior of the eastern Black Sea and the southeastern parts of Eastern Anatolia. Elsewhere, temperatures are expected to remain stable. Winds will generally be light to moderate, blowing from the north and northwest in the northern and western parts of the country, and from the south in the southern and eastern regions.

Authorities have issued a "yellow code" warning for 21 provinces due to the anticipated heavy rainfall, urging citizens to be cautious of potential adverse effects. The affected provinces include Adana, Antalya, Bilecik, Bitlis, Burdur, Bursa, Diyarbakır, Hakkari, Hatay, Isparta, Mersin, Kocaeli, Maraş, Muş, Sakarya, Siirt, Van, Batman, Şırnak, Yalova, and Osmaniye. Residents in these areas are advised to take necessary precautions.
