Turkey weather: Northeast showers expected, strong winds and storm warning issued for Marmara and Aegean regions

Turkey's General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM) has issued its latest weather report, forecasting a mixed pattern across the country for July 30, 2026. The northeastern parts of the country are expected to experience partly cloudy skies, with scattered showers and thunderstorms anticipated along the Eastern Black Sea coast and in the northeastern regions of Eastern Anatolia.

Temperatures are projected to remain consistent with seasonal averages nationwide. However, significant wind activity is expected. Winds will generally blow from the north in most areas, shifting to southerly directions in the southeastern parts of the country. These winds are predicted to be light to moderate, but will strengthen considerably in several regions.

A strong wind warning has been issued for the Marmara region, the southern Aegean, and the inner parts of the Mediterranean, with speeds ranging from 40-60 km/h. In some areas, including the southwestern Marmara, northern Aegean coasts, and the inner western Mediterranean, gusts could reach short-lived storm force, between 50-70 km/h.

Specifically, a strong wind and storm warning is in effect for the northern and northeastern coasts of the Marmara region and the northern Aegean, where winds are expected to blow from the north and northeast (poyraz) at 50-70 km/h, with occasional gusts up to 80 km/h. Authorities are advising caution due to the risk of falling trees and poles, roof damage, and disruptions to transportation. Five provinces, Balıkesir, Çanakkale, Manisa, Bursa, and İzmir, have been issued a yellow code warning due to these conditions.
