Turkey weather: Scattered showers and thunderstorms expected, with heavy rain warnings

Turkey's General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM) predicts a day of varied weather across the nation. Northern, interior, and eastern regions are expected to experience partly cloudy to overcast skies. Localized showers and thunderstorms are forecast for areas including the Eastern Mediterranean, Western Black Sea (excluding Bolu), Central and Eastern Black Sea (excluding Çorum), Eastern Anatolia, Sivas, and the coastal areas of Mersin.

Residents in Osmaniye, Trabzon, Rize, and the coastal regions of Hatay and Artvin should prepare for potentially heavy rainfall and thunderstorms this evening. The MGM has issued a strong rainfall warning for these areas, advising caution due to the risk of floods, waterlogging, and transportation disruptions.

In addition to the precipitation, strong winds blowing from the south are expected in the southeastern parts of Eastern Anatolia, with speeds ranging from 40-60 km/h. A strong wind warning is in effect for this region, urging preparedness for potential negative impacts.

Temperatures will vary across the country. Coastal cities like Istanbul will see highs around 23°C, while inland areas such as Afyonkarahisar will be cooler, with highs around 19°C. The Aegean region is expected to remain mostly clear with little cloud cover.
