Turkish cinema legend Kadir İnanır dies at 77 after battling illness

Kadir İnanır, a legendary figure in Turkish cinema celebrated for his iconic roles, passed away at the age of 77. His death was attributed to respiratory failure stemming from pneumonia, concluding a prolonged battle with illness.

His nephew, actor Levent İnanır, spoke to the press outside Acıbadem Fulya Hospital, revealing the depth of his uncle's struggles. "He resisted his illness so much," Levent İnanır said, noting that his uncle had endured significant health challenges over the last eight years. He recounted a final conversation before İnanır was placed on a ventilator, describing him as "very tired, very worn out," despite attempting a joke.

He resisted his illness so much. Doctors were kind. He experienced many difficulties over 8 consecutive years. He could only endure this much. We last spoke before the intubation process. He was very good but resisting. He even made a joke, but he was very tired, very worn out. May his place be heaven.

Hospital officials confirmed İnanır had been receiving treatment since May 13 for advanced lung cancer, which led to pneumonia and respiratory distress. His condition worsened, leading to acute kidney failure and multi-organ failure, ultimately causing his death at 6:05 PM on May 26. The hospital extended condolences to his family and loved ones.

Kadir İnanır is scheduled to be honored with a ceremony at the Harbiye Muhsin Ertuğrul Stage at 1:00 PM on Sunday, June 28. Following the ceremony, a funeral prayer will be held at the Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa Mosque, with interment to follow at Ulus Cemetery.

His condition worsened due to deepening respiratory failure, and he was admitted to intensive care on May 14. Due to acute kidney failure and respiratory failure caused by advanced lung cancer, Kadir İnanır's condition was severe, and he passed away today at 18:05 due to multiple organ failure.
