Turkish Education Ministry Mandates 'National Solidarity' in Schools

Turkey's Ministry of National Education (MEB) has issued a directive for the 2026-2027 academic year, emphasizing the strengthening of national solidarity and social cohesion. The directive, signed by Minister Yusuf Tekin, outlines the principles and procedures for the upcoming academic year, which is set to begin on September 14.

A key focus of the new directive is the integration of themes related to "national unity and social integration" into educational activities. This initiative stems from a law recently passed by parliament and published in the Official Gazette, aimed at reinforcing national resilience and societal unity. The MEB stated that this "national stance" is a top priority and a core objective of the education process.

The national stance put forth by the Law on Strengthening National Solidarity and Social Cohesion will be one of the Ministry's unwavering top priorities and a main goal of educational and training processes.

The ministry stressed the importance of nurturing students' sense of national unity and brotherhood, encouraging them to uphold their homeland and the "brotherhood law." Students are to be educated on the principles of "constitutional citizenship and the principle of equality." The directive signifies a policy shift, incorporating "social cohesion" as a central theme in school activities for the upcoming academic year.
