Turkish national arrested in Greece on murder charges

Greek police have apprehended a 26-year-old Turkish national in Rafina, a coastal town near Athens, acting on a red notice issued by Turkish authorities. The arrest, made on Tuesday, March 14, stems from serious allegations of premeditated murder.

According to an announcement by the Hellenic Police (ELAS), officers from the immediate action unit spotted the man during a patrol and found his behavior suspicious. A subsequent check of his documents revealed the outstanding red notice from Turkey. The suspect is accused of fatally shooting another Turkish citizen in August 2023 while traveling on a motorcycle in Turkey.

Following his arrest, the 26-year-old was initially taken to the Rafina-Pikermi Crimes Investigation Department before being transferred to the competent prosecutor's office. The Greek judicial system will now proceed with the necessary procedures as dictated by international law and bilateral agreements concerning extradition requests.
