Türkiye, Canada Agree to Launch Exploratory Talks on Free Trade

Saudi Arabia is strategically positioning itself as a global leader in critical minerals, capitalizing on the rich deposits found within the ancient Arabian Shield. This geological formation, estimated to be between 500 and 900 million years old, holds a significant concentration of in-demand natural resources, including rare-earth elements essential for modern technologies.

Since the launch of its Vision 2030 initiative, the mining sector, under the leadership of Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Bandar Alkhorayef, has been elevated to the third pillar of the Kingdom's national economy. As Saudi Arabia advances its renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, and digital infrastructure goals, critical minerals are becoming indispensable for its industrial development and global competitiveness. Rare earth elements, though small in volume, are vital components for electric vehicles, wind turbines, aircraft systems, and data centers.

The global imperative to secure a consistent supply of critical minerals is intensifying, particularly for nations transitioning to clean energy and deploying artificial intelligence. This has shifted international focus from mere resource access to developing resilient, integrated value chains that encompass mining, processing, refining, and advanced manufacturing. Saudi Arabia is poised to benefit significantly from this transformation, with substantial mineral discoveries reinforcing its emergence as a hub for mining investments and international cooperation.

Minister Alkhorayef recently concluded a high-level visit to the Russian Federation, a nation known for its extensive critical mineral reserves. This engagement follows a memorandum of understanding signed between the two countries to deepen collaboration across the critical minerals value chain, including joint exploration, technology exchange, and investment in processing and manufacturing. These international partnerships underscore Saudi Arabia's commitment to building a robust and diversified critical minerals sector.
