Türkiye to establish military training facility in Nigeria

The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (retd.), led a high-level Nigerian delegation to productive bilateral talks with the Turkish Minister of Defence at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum 2026.

This collaboration goes beyond mere training; it represents a comprehensive approach to security development. Nigerian armed forces personnel will receive specialized training in critical areas such as Special Forces operations, counterterrorism, intelligence integration, and counter-drone and counter-IED operations. The inclusion of UN pre-deployment exercises ensures our forces are prepared for international peacekeeping missions.

From a Nigerian perspective, this partnership is particularly vital given the persistent security challenges we face, including insurgency and other non-state threats. The focus on advanced capabilities like counter-drone and counter-IED operations directly addresses the evolving nature of warfare. Furthermore, the agreement's provisions for technology transfer, defense industry collaboration, and co-development of military capabilities promise long-term benefits for our national defense industry.
