Tusk Bets on Zondacrypto as Polish Politics Remains Deadlocked

Donald Tusk brought a last-minute “bomb” to parliament, releasing an excerpt from testimony in the Zondacrypto case that placed political pressure on the right. He disclosed it just minutes before a vote, adding a new charge to an already stalled political contest.

The same sitting produced mixed results for the government. The Sejm elected former minister Krzysztof Berka as a judge of the Constitutional Tribunal, but lawmakers failed to override the president’s veto of legislation on crypto-assets. The political deadlock, meanwhile, has continued for months.

The Zondacrypto dispute has become a battle over competing narratives. The right calls it “Tusk’s scandal,” while the governing coalition calls it “the right’s scandal.” Rzeczpospolita journalists Michał Szułdrzyński and Michał Kolanko asked which version an average voter would accept.

Kolanko remained skeptical about the case’s political impact. Res Futury analyses showed that discussion of the affair reached billions of views even before Tusk’s parliamentary speech. But being heard is not the same as changing an electoral decision. The question, he said, was whether anyone would become more mobilized or demobilized because of Zondacrypto.
