Tusk: Fire at Polish Drone Factory Was Undoubtedly Sabotage

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said there was no doubt that a fire at the VB Elektroniks drone factory in Skarżysko-Kamienna was deliberate sabotage. He said authorities had not found comparable evidence in a separate fire at the JFG Komposits factory and warehouse in Lublin, although he would not rule it out because of what the company produces.

VB Elektroniks makes drones used by the Ukrainian military. JFG Komposits manufactures components for the aviation industry. Tusk described the recent incidents in Poland and Germany as deeply worrying and part of what he called Russia’s escalation across the region.

Tusk warned that the coming weeks would pose a major challenge not only on the battlefield in Ukraine, but also for Poland and neighboring countries. He said Russia planned to increase tensions and destabilize the region. “We do not long for a conflict with Russia, but it appears that Russia is waging a hybrid war against us and we must show Putin that we will not allow ourselves to be frightened,” Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski told TVP.info.

Sikorski said the region was not living through a normal period of peace. He described hybrid warfare as more than online activity, citing paid assassins, arson, explosions on trains and incursions into airspace by drones and cruise missiles.

He also said Germany, which he called Poland’s ally, appeared to have been attacked in a series of acts of state terrorism. Sikorski urged the European Union to tighten sanctions against Russia in response to the incidents in Germany and elsewhere, restrict Russian diplomats’ movement through the Schengen area and close some Russian consulates. He said many accredited Russian diplomats were active agents.
