Twelve killed, nine injured in Johannesburg shooting

A deadly shooting erupted in the Jumpers informal settlement in Cleveland, east of Johannesburg, resulting in at least 12 fatalities and nine injuries. Police confirmed the incident occurred yesterday evening and have launched a manhunt for over 10 suspects.

According to a police statement, the assailants arrived in a white Toyota Quantum vehicle. They entered the settlement from two access points, indiscriminately firing at multiple locations before escaping in the same vehicle. The motive behind this violent attack remains unknown as investigations are underway.

South Africa is known to have one of the highest murder rates globally, with an average of approximately 60 murders occurring each day. This latest incident adds to the ongoing concern over violent crime in the country.

Authorities are actively pursuing leads to apprehend those responsible for the shooting.
