Two Accidents on A7 Highway Prompt Major Emergency Response

A stretch of the A7 highway in Germany became the scene of a major emergency response after two separate accidents occurred within a two-hour span on Sunday evening. The incidents, which took place near Bockenem in the Hildesheim district, led to temporary full closures of the northbound lanes.

The first collision happened around 8 p.m. when a 29-year-old driver misjudged the speed of the car ahead and swerved. This maneuver put another driver in a precarious position on the first passing lane, causing them to swerve onto the second passing lane and collide with a 62-year-old woman's vehicle. Three people sustained minor to moderate injuries and were taken to the hospital.

Nearly two hours later, the traffic jam caused by the initial accident became the site of a second crash. A 45-year-old driver failed to notice the end of the queue and struck a minibus carrying seven passengers. The impact then sent the driver's vehicle into a car towing a trailer. Although eleven people were involved in this second incident, emergency services, acting out of caution due to the number of individuals, declared a mass casualty alert. Fortunately, all involved in the second accident were unharmed.

In total, 65 emergency personnel from the police, fire department, and ambulance services responded to the scene. The estimated damage from both accidents amounts to approximately 50,000 euros. Recovery operations continued into the night, with traffic being diverted at the Bockenem junction until around 1:50 a.m.
