Two arrested for pre-planned brick attack on motorcyclist in Dhaka

Dhaka police have arrested two men in connection with a brutal, pre-planned attack on a motorcyclist that left him critically injured. The incident, which occurred in Dhaka's East Shewrapara area, gained attention after CCTV footage of the assault was widely shared on social media.

The attack was pre-planned and stemmed from a previous enmity.

The arrests were made during separate operations in Dhaka and Mymensingh. The apprehended individuals have been identified as Parvez, 30, and Anwar Hossain Babu, 32. According to police, the attack was premeditated and motivated by a prior dispute between the victim, identified as Rafi, and Parvez. Deputy Commissioner Mostak Sarker stated that Parvez had previously been a tenant in Rafi's house, and a conflict arose due to Parvez and his associates allegedly engaging in local drug trading activities.

The feud reportedly escalated on Tuesday evening when Rafi had a heated argument with Parvez and his associate Faisal, alias Kalu. The suspects allegedly threatened Rafi during this confrontation. Police detailed that Parvez, Kalu, Babu, and another associate named Amin positioned themselves near the East Shewrapara bus stand early Wednesday morning as part of their plan. When Rafi rode past on his motorcycle, Amin allegedly tried to block his path, and Parvez struck him on the head with a brick, causing severe injuries.

Parvez had previously been a tenant at the victim Rafi's house. A dispute developed between them as Parvez and his associates were allegedly involved in local drug trading activities.

CCTV footage revealed that after the attack, the assailants placed the injured Rafi into an auto-rickshaw, with one suspect fleeing with his motorcycle. Police reported that the attackers attempted to mislead onlookers by claiming a brick had accidentally fallen from a building. They later abandoned Rafi in the Ibrahimpur area before escaping. The victim's uncle, Nur Hossain, has filed an attempted murder case with the Kafrul Police Station. Police are actively pursuing the remaining suspects, including Faisal, alias Kalu, who is reportedly involved in multiple drug-related cases.
