Two arrested in 2023 shooting death of Ontario teen

Durham Regional Police have arrested two men in connection with the shooting death of 17-year-old Anthony Dixon, who was killed in Pickering, Ontario, three years ago.

The arrests followed an extensive investigation into the June 18 incident. Police responded to reports of a shooting around 9:40 p.m. and found Dixon, who succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His family remembered him for his "banter, his silliness (and) his smile in the morning."

Fawaz Sheikh, 22, of Ajax, has been charged with second-degree murder. A second suspect, who was a youth at the time of the offense and is now 19, cannot be identified due to provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. This teen also faces a count of second-degree murder.

He did everything a normal 17-year-old was supposed to do.

James Dixon, Anthony's father, described his son as a good kid who excelled in Grade 11 at Pine Ridge Secondary School. He was involved in typical teenage activities like listening to music, playing basketball and video games, and spending time with friends and family. Dixon also played a crucial role in his family, often picking up his three younger brothers from school and helping with childcare.

Police continue to investigate the case and urge anyone with information to contact the homicide unit.
