Two arrested in Santiago after stealing truck with over $100 million in electronics

Two suspects have been apprehended by Carabineros (Chilean police) in connection with the theft of a truck laden with electronics valued at over $100 million CLP (approximately $107,000 USD). The arrests took place in Cerro Navia, within the Santiago Metropolitan Region.

The truck hijacking, characterized as an "encerrona" – a common term for carjacking in Chile – initially occurred in the commune of Maipú. However, law enforcement successfully tracked and detained the alleged perpetrators later the same day in Cerro Navia.

Authorities from the Carabineros' department for the search of wanted persons and vehicles provided details on the operation. Significantly, one of the individuals arrested was found to have an existing arrest warrant for a prior offense, indicating a history of criminal activity.

The stolen cargo consisted of a substantial quantity of electronic goods, underscoring the high value of the heist. The swift apprehension of the suspects demonstrates the police's efforts to combat such high-value cargo thefts in the region.
