Two assaulted in Hanoi apartment complex over 160,000 VND parking fee dispute

Hanoi, Vietnam – A dispute over a 160,000 VND (approximately $6.30 USD) car parking fee at the New Horizon apartment complex in Hanoi escalated into a violent assault, leaving two individuals injured.

The incident occurred on the evening of June 14, when a driver, identified as N.M.D., was taking a resident, T.M.H., and his family to visit friends at the complex. Upon exiting the vehicle in the basement parking area, the driver was informed of the fee. When he requested a receipt, a disagreement ensued with individuals believed to be security staff.

Mr. H. began recording the altercation on his phone. According to his account, a person in a black shirt then kicked his iPhone 14 Pro Max, shattering the screen. This was immediately followed by an assault on both Mr. H. and the driver, Mr. D., involving physical blows and the use of weapons.

The violence only ceased when Mr. H. managed to escape to a common area of the complex and call for help. Both Mr. H. and Mr. D. reported the incident to the Vĩnh Tuy Ward police early on June 15. Mr. H. sustained soft tissue injuries and required three stitches to his head, while Mr. D. suffered a broken finger and multiple head stitches, along with other soft tissue injuries.

"The people who attacked us were thugs. I hope the authorities will investigate and deal with those involved strictly," Mr. H. stated. A leader from the Vĩnh Tuy Ward police confirmed that seven to eight individuals have been summoned for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
