Two Bihor women held in custody over alleged theft of 35,000 lei from elderly man

Two women from Bihor were placed in pretrial detention after allegedly stealing 35,000 lei from the home of a 77-year-old man in Ciucea, Cluj County.

The incident allegedly took place on the evening of Aug. 27, at about 7:45 p.m. The man told police he saw an unknown woman leaving his yard. Investigators said the 42-year-old woman had entered the house and taken the money, while a 38-year-old woman, acting as a lookout, monitored the area and the property.

According to investigators, the homeowner tried to stop the 42-year-old woman from leaving. She allegedly used violence against him. Police from Huedin and Bihor later identified both suspects and recovered 5,000 lei of the alleged loss.

The women were detained for 24 hours on Aug. 31. On Sept. 1, a prosecutor changed the legal classification from aggravated robbery to aggravated theft and aiding aggravated theft. A judge at the Huedin District Court then approved a request for pretrial detention. One woman faces an allegation of aggravated theft, while the other faces an allegation of aiding aggravated theft.
