Two Brothers Die Near Wire Fence in Suspected Electrocution While Watering Coconut Trees

Two brothers were found dead beside a B40 wire fence in Dong Thap after they went to water coconut trees, while an 11-year-old boy was shocked when he touched the fence.

Police in My Tinh An Commune are investigating the deaths of Nguyen Van Chieu, 68, and his younger brother Nguyen Van Lua, 63. The two men lived in the same locality and were tending nearby coconut gardens separated by the fence.

According to the initial investigation, Chieu went to water the trees at about 10 a.m. on September 5. Lua arrived at the neighboring garden around 1 p.m. At about 2:30 p.m., Chieu’s 11-year-old grandson, Nguyen Huu K., went to look for him. The boy received an electric shock when he touched the B40 fence, then ran home and told his mother.

Bui Thi Thu Nguyet, 45, went to the garden after suspecting that Chieu had also been involved. She found him lying next to the fence, called for help and switched off the motor’s circuit breaker. The family later found Lua lying beside the same fence, about 15 meters from Chieu.

The family determined that both men had died and reported the case to police. My Tinh An police and professional units from Dong Thap provincial police examined the scene and the bodies as they investigate the cause of death.
