Two Charged After $13 Million Drug Haul on Hume Highway

Victoria Police have taken a significant step in combating the illicit drug trade with the arrest and charging of two individuals in connection with a major drug seizure. The operation, which occurred on the Hume Highway in north-east Victoria, saw officers intercept a vehicle and discover approximately $13 million worth of methylamphetamine.

The individuals, a 22-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman, both from New South Wales, have been charged with trafficking a commercial quantity of drugs. This bust is the result of a dedicated investigation targeting drug trafficking networks operating between New South Wales and Victoria, highlighting the cross-border nature of these criminal enterprises.

Detective Inspector Jamie Walker of Victoria Police's Major Drug Squad emphasized the force's unwavering commitment to eradicating drugs from the community. "We have zero tolerance for those bringing harm to our community by importing and trafficking drugs of any kind," Walker stated. He further underscored the link between drug trafficking and crime, asserting that these arrests demonstrate the police's resolve to dismantle the illicit substance trade within Victoria.

"Our team has relentlessly tracked down offenders as part of this investigation and in turn have removed considerable quantities of drugs from the streets," Walker added, underscoring the diligent work of the police in bringing these offenders to justice. The accused are scheduled to appear before the Wangaratta Magistrates Court, where the legal proceedings will continue.
