Two communist parties seal three point deal to share provincial government leadership

Nepal's two major communist parties, the CPN-UML and the Nepali Communist Party (NCP), have forged an agreement to share leadership in provincial governments across the country. The pact, signed by party leaders KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal, outlines a cooperative framework for forming and operating coalition governments in the seven provinces.

Under the terms of the deal, the CPN-UML will take the lead in Koshi, Bagmati, and Lumbini provinces. The NCP will head governments in Karnali and Sudurpashchim. For Madhesh and Gandaki provinces, the parties have agreed to consult with other political groups before finalizing leadership and power-sharing arrangements.

The agreement seeks to resolve issues that arose during the provincial budget-making process, including disputes, allocation irregularities, and unhealthy political competition. Both parties stated that the coalition's objective is to promote political stability, enhance good governance, foster prosperity, and expedite provincial development through increased collaboration.
