Two dead, five injured in Mankessim-Accra highway crash

A fatal road traffic crash occurred on the Mankessim-Accra section of the N1 highway in Ghana on Thursday, resulting in two fatalities and five injuries. The deceased, a man and a woman, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The injured, consisting of two women and three men, were promptly taken to the hospital for medical treatment. The driver of the involved vehicle, a Toyota Voxy, reportedly escaped the crash unharmed. Nine occupants were in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

Rescue teams from the Mankessim Fire Station, in collaboration with the National Ambulance Service, responded to the scene. They worked to evacuate the victims and transport them to medical facilities. Three injured individuals were taken to the Mercy Women Catholic Hospital in Mankessim, while the bodies of the deceased were moved to the Saltpond Government Hospital mortuary.

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident to determine the circumstances that led to the crash. Following the rescue and recovery operations, personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service cleared the highway to ensure the smooth resumption of traffic and prevent further risks.
