Two Dead, One Critical After Laval Crash During Police Avoidance

A dangerous early morning drive ended in tragedy in Laval, Quebec, leaving two young adults dead and another in critical condition. The incident began when police spotted a vehicle with no license plates traveling on Ouimet Street around 1:20 a.m. Wednesday.

Officers attempted to stop the car, but the driver accelerated significantly, prompting police to abandon the interception attempt. They deemed the situation too dangerous for the public and themselves to initiate a pursuit. Shortly after, the fleeing vehicle lost control and crashed into Atlantis Gym, a local training center.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Two 19-year-old passengers were rushed to the hospital, where one, a woman, later died. The other passenger, a man, remains in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. Boulevard des Laurentides was closed in both directions for the investigation. The Bureau des enquetes independantes, Quebec's police watchdog, has stated it will not be investigating the incident.
