Winnipeg Police Seek Person of Interest in Theft of Charity Cyclists' Bikes

Winnipeg police are seeking the public's assistance in identifying a person of interest connected to the theft of two bicycles valued at around $15,000. The bicycles were stolen on July 24 from the 500 block of Portage Avenue in downtown Winnipeg, according to the Winnipeg Police Service's major crimes unit, which is handling the investigation.

Images released by the police show an individual holding and riding the stolen bikes. These bicycles belonged to a pair of charity cyclists who were passing through Winnipeg as part of a cross-country journey. The cyclists, originally from New Brunswick, were traveling from North Sydney, Nova Scotia, to Victoria, British Columbia.

Despite the setback, the duo received new bicycles funded by donors just three days after the theft, on July 27. They resumed their journey the following day and anticipate reaching their final destination in British Columbia around August 15. The cyclists aim to raise $250,000 for men's mental health initiatives and Movember Canada through their trek.

The theft occurred during a stop in Winnipeg, impacting their fundraising efforts. However, the immediate support from donors allowed them to continue their important mission across Canada.
