Two dead, six injured as detached train wagons hit vehicles in Bangladesh

A tragic accident at the Khankhanapur rail crossing in Rajbari Sadar upazila, Bangladesh, has resulted in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to at least six others. The incident involved detached wagons of a freight train colliding with a bus, an auto-rickshaw, and a Mahindra vehicle on Sunday night.

The collision occurred around 8:40 p.m. when a freight train carrying oil experienced a separation, leaving four wagons behind its engine and first coach. Crucially, after the front portion of the train cleared the crossing, the gateman raised the barrier. This action allowed a bus, an auto-rickshaw, and a Mahindra to proceed onto the tracks, unaware of the approaching detached wagons.

The runaway wagons then slammed into the vehicles. The impact was severe, completely crushing the auto-rickshaw and the Mahindra. The bus also sustained partial damage. Police confirmed the incident, and locals initiated rescue efforts, transporting eight injured individuals to Faridpur Medical College Hospital. Sadly, one victim, Monowar, died en route, while Abdul Malek Sheikh was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. An investigation into the accident has been announced.
