Two drivers detained in Seferihisar Municipality bribery probe

An ongoing bribery investigation into the Seferihisar Municipality in İzmir has led to new detentions. The drivers of the suspended mayor, İsmail Yetişkin, and a deputy mayor, G.P., have been taken into custody. Their processing at the police department is reportedly ongoing.

The investigation, overseen by the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, initially resulted in the detention of 25 suspects on June 25. Among those detained were Seferihisar Mayor İsmail Yetişkin, Balçova Mayor Onur Yiğit, and Seferihisar deputy mayors G.P., N.H., and İ.K. Following these detentions, 12 individuals, including Yetişkin, were arrested.

The Ministry of Interior subsequently announced the suspension of Seferihisar Mayor İsmail Yetişkin from his duties. In a related development, Balçova Mayor Onur Yiğit was initially placed under house arrest and removed from his post, but was later reinstated. Within the Seferihisar Municipal Council, following Mayor Yetişkin's suspension, CHP council member Fuat Gümüş was elected as the acting mayor.

The current detentions of the drivers suggest the investigation is deepening, potentially uncovering further links or evidence related to the alleged bribery scheme within the municipality. The focus on individuals connected to the mayor and deputy mayor indicates a continued effort to trace the flow of illicit activities and hold those involved accountable.
