Two Ecuadorian tourists rescued after drifting in Bocas del Toro

Two Ecuadorian tourists found themselves in distress after their vessel experienced mechanical failure, leaving them adrift in the waters of Bocas del Toro, Panama.

The incident occurred within the protected area of Isla Escudo de Veraguas. Environmental police units, conducting a routine aquatic patrol in coordination with park rangers from the Ministry of Environment, received a distress signal and initiated a rescue operation.

Authorities located the sailboat adrift and uncontrolled amidst adverse weather conditions. Upon reaching the tourists, rescuers observed signs of dehydration and minor injuries.

Immediate first aid was administered on-site before the individuals were safely transferred. Arrangements were then made for their evacuation and subsequent medical attention.

Following the rescue, authorities emphasized the critical importance of ensuring vessels are in good mechanical condition and of consulting weather forecasts before embarking on maritime journeys, particularly in protected and remote areas.
