Two elderly people killed in Louth road collision

A man and a woman, both in their 70s, died following a two-car collision in County Louth. Two other individuals, a man and a woman in their 30s, sustained serious injuries and were airlifted to Dublin hospitals.

The incident occurred on the R173, The Bush, at approximately 3:10 PM yesterday. Emergency services responded, and the two elderly occupants of one vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene.

Paramedics treated the two younger individuals before they were transported by air ambulance to Beaumont Hospital and the Mater Hospital. The road was temporarily closed for a technical examination by authorities but has since reopened.

An Garda Síochána is seeking assistance from the public. They are appealing to any witnesses or individuals who were traveling on the R173 between Dundalk and Carlingford between 2:30 PM and 3:30 PM yesterday. Investigators are particularly interested in any camera footage, including dash-cam recordings, that may help their inquiry.
