Two homicides and injuries in less than 24 hours raise alarms in Colón

Colón province is on high alert following a surge in violence, with two homicides and at least two people injured in separate armed attacks within a 24-hour period. The incidents occurred between Tuesday afternoon and evening, intensifying fears about public safety in the region.

The first fatal shooting took place around 1 p.m. in the Alto de los Lagos sector of Cristóbal. The victim, who was performing community service for the Cristóbal Communal Board, was shot near L-45 tower. Police reported that the man resided in the La Playita area and was serving a community work sentence. Authorities have apprehended one suspect in connection with this case, who is currently under investigation.

Later that evening, another violent incident occurred in the Río Alejandro sector of Puerto Pilón. A 52-year-old man died from multiple gunshot wounds, and a 23-year-old woman sustained injuries to her leg and buttocks. Both were rushed to a polyclinic in Sabanitas, where the man was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Police noted that the deceased had a criminal record and had survived a previous attack in the same area last month.

Amidst these investigations, further shootings were reported. A 18-year-old male was injured by gunfire in the Sagrada Resurrección neighborhood in Cristóbal. Additionally, another man was wounded by a firearm on Justo Arosemena Avenue in Colón city just two hours later. The condition of the injured individuals has not been fully disclosed.
