Two Indonesian Hajj pilgrims die upon return to Surabaya

Two Indonesian pilgrims from Malang have died during the return process to Surabaya, according to the Surabaya Debarkation Hajj Organizing Committee (PPIH). One pilgrim, Hery Widianto, 69, from Kloter 12, passed away at Juanda International Airport, while Wayan Rohani Suwasti, 63, also from Kloter 12, died while receiving treatment at the Haji Surabaya Hospital.

Mohammad As’adul Anam, the head of PPIH Debarkasi Surabaya, expressed condolences for the pilgrims' deaths. He assured that the debarkation services were proceeding smoothly and according to procedures, with support from all service elements at the Surabaya Hajj Dormitory.

As of Thursday, June 4, 2026, the Surabaya Debarkation had received 5,684 returning pilgrims and officers, representing approximately 13 percent of the total 44,000 pilgrims and officers who departed for the Hajj season. This group includes 5,579 pilgrims, 25 regional Hajj officers, 20 Hajj Guidance Group officers, and 60 cluster and supporting officers, up to Kloter 15.

PPIH also reported 17 departures from the total count, including eight pilgrims who died in Saudi Arabia and four who were hospitalized there. Additionally, there were five empty seats and one transfer from a previous cluster. Three pilgrims remain in Saudi Arabia for treatment: Mohammad Dzikri Muiz, 65, from Probolinggo, is being treated for cancer in Jeddah; Siti Mutmainah Asari, 64, from Malang, is at Taif Airport Hospital; and Matory Ahmad Jalil, 78, also from Malang, is at King Faisal Hospital for respiratory distress. PPIH Debarkasi Surabaya continues to coordinate with Saudi health authorities to monitor the condition of those undergoing treatment.
