Two Jakarta areas named 'red zones' for online gambling

Four regencies and cities across Indonesia have been identified as 'red zones' for online gambling activities, with two of these areas located within the DKI Jakarta province. The Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) revealed this data, highlighting the prevalence of online gambling in these regions.

Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung, commented on the situation, suggesting that the high number of residents and strong purchasing power in Jakarta contribute to its inclusion in the red zones. "Because Jakarta has a large population and its residents generally have good purchasing power, although people then speculate with online gambling," he stated.

Despite the contributing factors, Governor Anung stressed the importance of law enforcement agencies actively combating online gambling, particularly in Jakarta. He pledged full support for these efforts. "I truly hope and expect the government, in this case the law enforcement apparatus, to eradicate online gambling in Jakarta as harshly as possible. I give my full support," he said.

Data from PPATK indicates specific numbers for players and deposits in the identified areas. For instance, Bogor Regency has 103,092 players with deposits totaling Rp 414.5 billion. West Jakarta City has 89,320 players (Rp 600.6 billion), East Jakarta City has 81,750 players (Rp 425.9 billion), and Bandung City has 80,549 players (Rp 341.7 billion). Within Jakarta, four sub-districts, Cengkareng, Cakung, Tanjung Priok, and Kebayoran Lama, show the highest numbers of online gambling players. The data also reveals that the most active age group for online gambling is between 20 and 30 years old, followed by those aged 31-40, indicating that a majority of players are within their productive years.
