Two Kaunas students receive special gifts for perfect exam scores

Two high school students from the Kaunas district have been honored with special gifts for their outstanding achievement of perfect scores on state matriculation exams. Matas Janavičius, from Vytautas Magnus University (VDU) Ugnė Karvelis Gymnasium, secured three perfect scores, while Ignas Parnarauskas from Karmėlava Balys Buračas Gymnasium achieved two. Both students were awarded mayoral watches.

Overall, Kaunas district's high school graduates demonstrated strong academic performance, with their results exceeding the national average in all state matriculation exams. Out of 470 graduates who took exams in 2026, 10 students earned 13 perfect scores. The most successful subject was informatics, with five perfect scores, followed by English and mathematics, each with three. Geography and Lithuanian language and literature saw one perfect score each.

Valerijus Makūnas, the mayor of Kaunas district, praised the educational community, responsible youth, and excellent teachers for these achievements. He noted that each perfect score represents a story of collaborative effort and mutual trust among students, educators, and families. The district also recognized the teachers who prepared these high-achieving students, including Laisvydas Kriščiūnas, an informatics teacher whose four students achieved perfect scores in the subject.

In contrast, the Kėdainiai district has implemented a system of financial rewards for students who achieve perfect scores. This year, Kėdainiai students earned 16 perfect scores. Benas Amalevičius, a student from Kėdainiai "Šviesioji" Gymnasium, received the highest accolades, scoring 100 points in five subjects: Lithuanian language and literature, mathematics, chemistry, English, and informatics. He received a bonus of 296 euros for each perfect score, totaling 1,480 euros. Additionally, students who received honors diplomas were awarded 592 euros, meaning one student received a total of 888 euros for a perfect score and honors diploma.
