Two Killed in Fresh Attack on Plateau Community

Suspected gunmen launched a deadly attack on the Dorowa Babuje community in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, Nigeria, killing two residents. The assault occurred Tuesday afternoon, sending the community into panic as residents fled.

According to community member Alfred Bitrus, the gunmen invaded the village around 1 p.m., shooting two individuals dead before escaping. Bitrus described the attack as unprovoked, stating that residents were engaged in their daily activities when the violence erupted.

The Berom Youth Moulders (BYM) condemned the incident, with publicity secretary Rwang Tengwong calling it tragic. Tengwong lamented the ongoing violence in Plateau communities, noting that vulnerable areas remain exposed despite repeated attacks. He urged security agencies to increase efforts to apprehend those responsible.

Both the federal and Plateau State governments were called upon to take decisive action to halt the recurring attacks and guarantee the safety of citizens. This incident follows coordinated attacks on the same community in February, which resulted in 10 deaths and drew widespread condemnation.

Efforts to obtain a statement from security agencies regarding the attack were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
