Two Kwara Assembly Lawmakers Defect from APC to PDP for 2027 Elections

Two members of the Kwara State House of Assembly have left the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), securing tickets to contest in the 2027 general elections.

Hon. Saba Yisa Gideon, representing Edu State Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on Livestock, cited "recent developments within the Party, particularly concerning internal democracy, fairness, and inclusiveness" as reasons for his departure. In his resignation letter, Gideon affirmed his commitment to serving his constituents with integrity.

I hereby formally resign my membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), effective immediately. This decision follows careful reflection and consultations with my constituents and key stakeholders. Recent developments within the Party, particularly concerning internal democracy, fairness, and inclusiveness, have led me to take this decision. I remain committed to serving the people of Edu State Constituency, Kwara State, and Nigeria with integrity, dedication, and accountability.

Similarly, Hon. Olushola Odetundun, representing Irepodun State Constituency, stated that his decision stemmed from extensive consultations with stakeholders and a need to "realign his political trajectory to better serve the interests of his constituency." He assured his constituents that his commitment to effective representation and ethical leadership remains unchanged despite the party switch.

These defections are part of a broader political shift in Kwara State. Notably, Senator Saliu Mustapha, representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, recently resigned from the APC to join the PDP. Additionally, Hon. Kolo Jiya, an APC chieftain from Kwara North Senatorial District, also left the party for the PDP to contest the senatorial ticket.
