Two law enforcers martyred in DI Khan ambush: police

Two police officers were martyred in an ambush by unidentified armed men in Pakistan's Dera Ismail Khan district on Friday. The attack took place in the Shah Alam Mor area of Daraban Kalan, within the jurisdiction of the Choudhwan police station, as officers were returning from a protest site.

The ambush followed the fatal shooting of a civilian the previous night. Unidentified gunmen reportedly attempted to stop two motorcyclists in the Choudhwan area. When the riders did not stop, the attackers opened fire, killing one of the men. In response, residents blocked Daraban Road on Friday morning.

Negotiations between protesters and police led to the road being reopened. However, shortly after the protest ended, four policemen traveling on two motorcycles were ambushed near Shah Alam Mor by armed individuals who were lying in wait. Assistant Sub-Inspector Faqir Hussain and Head Constable Wazir Khan were killed in the attack, while two other officers escaped unharmed.

Police and security forces quickly responded to the scene. The bodies of the martyred officers were transported to the hospital for legal procedures, and a search operation has been initiated to apprehend the perpetrators. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi condemned the attack and requested a report from senior police officials. He paid tribute to the fallen officers, calling them "the nation’s heroes" whose sacrifices are recognized nationwide. Governor Kundi also extended his condolences to the bereaved families and colleagues of the martyred officers.
