Two Men Arrested in Šabac and Ub for Alleged Attempted Murder of Milan Ostojić Sandokan

Police have arrested two men, identified as U.M. (32) from Šabac and M.M. (32) from Ub, on suspicion of attempting to murder Milan Ostojić, also known as Sandokan. The Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that the alleged attempted murder took place on July 8th in Šabac.

The incident occurred around 10:30 PM outside a catering establishment located within the bus station complex. Ostojić, 51, was shot and subsequently transported to the hospital. The suspects are also facing charges for illegal production, possession, carrying, and trafficking of weapons and explosives. They are being held for up to 48 hours before being brought before the competent prosecutor.

Ostojić is a figure known in Serbia's criminal underworld, having served nearly ten years in prison for ordering the murder of Siniša Kromeka in 2007. He was released in 2018. Investigative media previously reported Ostojić's presence in a camp established by supporters of President Aleksandar Vučić, linking him to the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS). Former Šabac mayor Nebojša Zelenović had also spoken in 2020 about Ostojić's alleged role in intimidating voters for the SNS.

This is not the first public incident involving Ostojić. Earlier this year, on May 19th, he was reportedly involved in an altercation at Slavija Square where he allegedly attempted to attack citizens but was prevented by a student. The student later told the media he had received threats and felt unsafe, reporting the incident to the police.
