Two more children die of suspected measles in Bangladesh, death toll reaches 880 this year

Measles continues to claim lives in Bangladesh, with two more children succumbing to symptoms resembling the disease in the 24 hours leading up to yesterday morning. This brings the nation's grim tally of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths to 880 for the year.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has classified both recent fatalities as suspected measles deaths, noting that no laboratory-confirmed measles deaths were reported during this specific period. The number of suspected measles deaths has now reached 782, while confirmed deaths stand at 98.

In the same 24-hour period, 872 new suspected measles cases were reported nationwide, pushing the cumulative total of suspected cases to 138,184. Additionally, 107 new laboratory-confirmed measles cases were recorded, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to 17,385. Since March 15, a total of 120,134 patients with suspected measles have been hospitalized across the country, with 115,980 having recovered, according to DGHS data.
