Two more suspects arrested in Paraguay money laundering probe

The "Copia Fiel 2.0" operation, investigating an alleged network for laundering assets to prevent judicial seizures, has led to the arrest of two additional suspects: César García and Roberto Ayala. These arrests bring the total number of detainees to three.

According to sources, García and Ayala are believed to be fronts for Roberto Cubilla Sanabria, a pre-candidate for councilor in Luque. Cubilla Sanabria was apprehended earlier on Tuesday during a series of simultaneous raids. Investigators consider him the central figure in a structure dedicated to concealing and laundering assets, aiming to shield them from eventual confiscation.

The prosecutor's office is preparing formal charges against the detainees, although the specific offenses are still being determined. The investigation is ongoing, with raids continuing to identify all members of the alleged organization. The operation, executed by specialized agents from the Organized Crime unit, involved five simultaneous searches, including Cubilla Sanabria's residence, to gather documents and electronic devices.

Investigators suggest the scheme may have operated not only for the family of the deceased congressman Eulalio “Lalo” Gomes but also for other criminal organizations whose assets were under scrutiny. The operation is described as the second phase of a broader investigation known as "Copia Fiel."
