Two new earthquakes hit western China after deadly tremor

Two new seismic events, measuring magnitudes 3.3 and 4.1, have jolted China's western Qinghai province. These tremors occurred between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, following a significant 6.3 magnitude earthquake on Tuesday. The earlier quake resulted in one fatality and eight injuries.

The China National Seismic Network reported the first new tremor at 2:19 p.m. GMT on Tuesday, with a depth of 10 kilometers. The second occurred at 2:06 a.m. GMT on Wednesday, also at a 10-kilometer depth. Both new seismic activities were registered in proximity to the epicenter of the main earthquake, which struck on Tuesday.

Provincial authorities in Qinghai revised the number of injured from Tuesday's earthquake to eight, an increase from the initial report of four. All injured individuals have since been released from the hospital after receiving medical care. The provincial government also stated that approximately 3,000 people have been moved to five designated shelters. Among those relocated were 1,286 students and teachers.

In response to the disaster, about a thousand rescuers and 178 vehicles were deployed to the affected area. Central Chinese authorities provided 10,000 aid items, supplemented by an additional 2,500 items from local governments. Western China, including provinces like Qinghai, frequently experiences seismic activity due to its location near the Eurasian and Indian tectonic plates.
